Shalteng, HMT, and Lawaypora - Accident-Prone Zones
The areas of Shalteng, HMT, and Lawaypora have recently seen a sharp increase in road accidents, primarily caused by dangerous driving practices. Reckless behaviors such as wrong-way driving, abrupt U-turns, and vehicles entering village lanes directly from highways are endangering public safety and making these areas high-risk zones for commuters.
Regional Transport Officer Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari has acknowledged these concerns, stating, “Local pressures have led to U-turns at unusual spots and wrong entry points from residential colonies. These practices are unsafe and need immediate rectification. Public safety must be prioritized over individual convenience.” Bukhari assured that corrective measures would soon be implemented to address these hazards.
To combat these issues, stricter enforcement of traffic rules has been recommended, including deploying additional Traffic Police personnel at key locations. Infrastructure upgrades, such as better road signage, designated entry and exit points, and barriers to prevent wrong-way driving, are essential to improving safety. Public awareness campaigns to educate residents on traffic rules and the dangers of unsafe driving are equally important in reducing accidents.
Immediate and coordinated action is needed to prevent further mishaps in these accident-prone zones. Safeguarding lives and ensuring road safety should be a collective responsibility, requiring efforts from both the authorities and the public.
