The Telangana Legislative Assembly has made an important decision by passing a resolution asking for the Bharat Ratna, India’s top civilian award, to be given to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The resolution was proposed by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who highlighted Singh’s major role in transforming India’s economy when he was Finance Minister in 1991 and later as Prime Minister.

Dr. Singh, often called the architect of India’s economic reforms, helped the country avoid a serious financial crisis. His policies opened up the economy, increased foreign investments, and set the stage for India’s current position in the global economy.

The resolution has received a lot of support in Telangana, but some critics think it might have political motives, especially with the general elections coming up. Still, many feel that this recognition is something that should have happened a long time ago. The push to honor Dr. Singh with the Bharat Ratna has started a bigger conversation about what it takes to receive such an award. Should India start seeing economic reforms as one of its major modern achievements? Telangana’s move could be the beginning of a new way to honor those who shape policies.

While the country waits to see how the central government responds, this resolution brings attention to Dr. Singh’s lasting impact and revives the discussion about celebrating India’s economic leaders.
