Ticket controversy: Locals hit streets in Jammu, demand change in mandate for Chamb seat

Jammu, Aug 31 (NVI): Thousands of people today staged a massive protest in Jammu demanding change in the mandate announced by BJP for “a local leader instead of an outsider.”

Locals on the streets alleged that BJP high command has to change the mandate and give it to local candidate from Chamb. “We wonder why the mandate has been given to a person from Akhnoor,” said a local protestor.
Women, elderly and youth were part of the protest.

They said BJP has given mandate to one Rajeev Sharma, who is from Akhnoor. “Why should we vote for an outsider (Rajeev Sharma),” they said and urged the BJP high command to change the mandate forthwith or otherwise they will intensify the protests in the coming days.

A protestor said that they have never seen Sharma in Chamb constituency and yet they are being asked to vote for him. “We hope BJP high command will address the issue without any further delay,” he said.
Pertinently, BJP has already faced heat from many of its senior leaders in Jammu for being denied the tickets.

The party’s old guard Chander Mohan and another leader Kashmiri Singh recently resigned from the BJP on the pretext that they have been ignored by the high command—(NVI)
