Ravi Shastri calls for strategies of injury management, condemns National Cricket Academy for its shoddy way of handling Mohammad Shami's fitness issues.
"Too Long Sitting in NCA": Shastri Slams Injury Handling of Shami
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed concern over the fact that pacer Mohammed Shami has taken too long to recover from injuries. According to him, it now comes out that the NCA was not doing the job that it was entrusted with-the handling of injuries to key players.
Speaking to the media recently, Shastri said he has "been sitting in the NCA for don't know how long. It is time to rethink how injuries are managed and players are rehabilitated." The words of Shastri depict frustration fans and experts have witnessed as far as some of the game's critical players are concerned with them being benched for months.
Shami is India's frontline bowler and has been prone to recurring injuries that often deprive him of participating in key matches. He said rehabilitation should be more proactive and open and the NCA must be more communicative with the players and team management.
The NCA, which trains and rehabilitates Indian cricketers at Bengaluru, has been under attack for being delayed and inefficient in getting the players match-ready.
This is the tournament time in India, where every player being fit is a must. Shastri's views make it further important to revise injury management with respect to these veteran players if they are required to be included in the lineup to maintain that edge. For now, however, fans cannot help but expect an update from Shami.
