The National Conference (NC) has expressed strong resentment after losing one of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir. Party leader Omar Abdullah alleged that some supporters “betrayed” them at the last moment. However, the party maintains that none of its MLAs cross-voted, raising the question of where the BJP’s extra votes came from.
Omar Abdullah said, “None of our MLAs defied the party line. So how did the BJP get those extra votes? It’s clear that people who sat with us, discussed politics with us, and called themselves our friends have stabbed us in the back.” He further added, “Those who wanted to support the BJP should have done so openly, not secretly.”
In the election for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, the NC won three but lost one, triggering anger and introspection within the party. Political circles are now abuzz with speculation was this defeat a result of cross-voting or a behind-the-scenes understanding among allies?
People’s Conference leader Sajjad Lone called the election result a “fixed match,” alleging that the entire process seemed pre-planned. His remark has sparked a new round of controversy in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
The NC’s failure to secure all four seats has left the party in discomfort accusing betrayal while rivals point to internal weakness. This result, many believe, marks a new chapter in the region’s political realignment.
