With a major legal setback now behind him, Arvind Kejriwal is attempting to reclaim lost political ground and reconnect with voters after being discharged in the controversial excise policy case. The development has given the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) renewed momentum as he prepares to re-enter the national political arena.

The case, which revolved around alleged irregularities in Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy, had severely impacted Kejriwal’s political image and governance agenda over the past months. Investigations and court proceedings had placed the Delhi administration under intense scrutiny and provided political ammunition to rivals, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

With the court discharging him from the case, Kejriwal has begun repositioning himself politically, presenting the outcome as vindication of his stand that the allegations were politically motivated. Party leaders have framed the development as proof that the accusations were part of a larger campaign to weaken AAP’s growing national influence.

In recent speeches and public appearances, Kejriwal has shifted his focus back to governance issues, highlighting achievements in sectors such as education, healthcare, and public utilities in Delhi. He has also intensified outreach efforts among party workers and supporters, aiming to rebuild public trust that may have been eroded during the prolonged legal battle.

Political observers believe the relief in the excise case could help Kejriwal regain political traction, particularly among urban voters who once saw him as a reform-driven leader challenging traditional politics. However, analysts also point out that the episode has left a lasting imprint on the political narrative around his leadership.

For the Aam Aadmi Party, the coming months will be crucial. The party is expected to focus on strengthening its base in Delhi while expanding influence in other states where it has tried to emerge as a national alternative. Leaders within the party say Kejriwal’s renewed visibility and direct engagement with voters will play a central role in that strategy.

Meanwhile, the BJP has maintained that the allegations in the excise policy controversy were serious and has continued to criticise the Delhi government over the issue. The political rivalry between the two parties is therefore likely to intensify as both sides prepare for upcoming electoral battles.

For Kejriwal, the discharge from the case represents more than legal relief, it offers an opportunity to rebuild credibility, regain political momentum, and attempt to win back both lost turf and public confidence.
