Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the headquarters of the 10th Battalion of the Assam Police at Kachutoli in Kamrup Metro district, emphasising infrastructure development and security enhancements in the northeastern state. The project, estimated to cost about ₹260 crore, will be built on land freed from encroachments, and officials said it will include modern facilities for police personnel.
Addressing a public gathering after the foundation‑laying event, Shah said the new battalion campus symbolises a strengthened security apparatus for Assam and underlined the BJP government’s commitment to law and order. He also highlighted ongoing development initiatives and pledged that Assam is poised to become an industrial hub in eastern and northeastern India within the next five years.
In a strong political message ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, Shah accused the Indian National Congress of failing to protect the state’s demographic balance when it was in power. He asserted that the BJP would “free Assam from the sin committed by the Congress” by addressing what he described as longstanding issues related to illegal infiltration and demographic shifts.
Shah questioned the Congress’s record on border security and alleged that policies under its past governments allowed illegal immigrants to settle in the region, impacting districts such as Dhubri, Barpeta and Morigaon. He said the BJP’s efforts to curb infiltration and reclaim encroached land demonstrate a clearer focus on Assam’s security and development.
The foundation‑laying ceremony also coincided with the 87th annual parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) being held in Assam for the first time, where Shah highlighted the force’s role in strengthening internal security across the country.
The BJP is seeking a third consecutive term in the state polls scheduled for March‑April, and Shah’s remarks are part of the party’s broader electoral campaign focused on security and economic growth.
