The funeral of Junior Commissioned Officer Sajeesh K, who died in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district two days ago, was held with full military honours at his home in Malappuram on Sunday, officials said.
According to the Army, JCO Sajeesh had been leading a search party in the Seri Mastan area of Behramgalla on Friday evening when the incident occurred. He reportedly slipped while negotiating a steep slope and fell into a deep gorge. Officials confirmed that he died on the spot due to the impact of the fall. His body was brought to his hometown on Saturday, where relatives, neighbours, senior Army personnel and local officials gathered to pay their respects. The tricolour-draped coffin was received with ceremonial honours before the final rites were performed.
Army personnel presented the guard of honour, and a wreath-laying ceremony was held as part of the military tribute. Officers described him as a dedicated soldier who had served with commitment throughout his career. Local residents turned out in large numbers to honour the JCO, whose service and sacrifice were acknowledged by community members and officials present at the ceremony.
Further formalities related to the incident are underway, and the Army has initiated procedures that follow the death of a serving soldier during operational duties.
