Today at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar, chief minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah inaugurated a free bus service for women. This particular free bus service for women targets to provide safe and accessible transportation for women in that particular region.

This motive seems to be beneficial for working women, students and other female travellers for hassle-free transportation.

Women of this region can travel freely by showing their aadhar cards as a proof of their residence. The free bus service collaborates with the national conference (NC) governments larger initiatives to promote women’s welfare and uphold public transport’s mobility for women in J&K.

“Prior to assuming office, the NC government had pledged to implement such initiatives to support women's mobility and safety. This was also announced in recent budget and parliament sessions”, said chief minister Omar to the press.

This motive is significant as it steps toward promoting women’s safety and accessibility in public transportation within the region.

The administration has informed all the relevant departments, including the Transport department, Srinagar Municipal Corporation along with local law enforcement agencies, to ensure smooth coordination for the successful application of this service.

Omar also clearly stated, that the smart buses will not have any loss as there will be zero-fare tickets as a compensation and these facilities would be there throughout every district of Jammu and Kashmir.
