MUMBAI : As the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra marked its one-year anniversary in office on Friday, the Opposition Congress demanded a detailed “white paper” in the upcoming winter session of the state legislature, outlining the government’s achievements over the past 12 months.
Vijay Wadettiwar, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, claiming that the people of Maharashtra had been left disappointed. “The past year has been a year of broken promises. We demand that the government present a white paper detailing what it has actually achieved,” Wadettiwar said in Nagpur, addressing reporters.
The former minister went on to highlight several concerns, particularly the rise in farmer suicides across the state. “Farmer suicides have increased in the last year, and the government has failed to address the crisis in the agricultural sector. Farmers are not getting guaranteed prices for their produce, and many are struggling to receive essential seeds and fertilisers on time,” Wadettiwar added.
The Congress party has consistently criticised the state government for its handling of agricultural issues, accusing it of neglecting the needs of farmers, a key constituency in Maharashtra. As the winter session of the legislature approaches, the demand for transparency and accountability from the government is expected to take centre stage in political discussions.
The Mahayuti government, however, has yet to respond to the Opposition’s calls for a comprehensive review of its first year in power.
