Kulgam Jan 10,2026:The Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M)on Saturday staged a protest in Kulgam against the recent power tariff hike and persistent unscheduled power cuts, highlighting the growing hardships faced by people across the district and the wider Kashmir region.
CPI(M) leaders and workers expressed serious concern over frequent and prolonged electricity outages, stating that erratic power supply has severely disrupted normal life. They said students, traders, and households are bearing the brunt, especially during the ongoing season, while heavy and allegedly non-transparent electricity bills have further added to public distress.
Senior CPI(M) leaders, including State Secretary Mohd. Abbas Rather and DDC Chairperson Mohd. Afzal Parry, participated in the protest along with other party workers. Addressing the gathering, the leaders urged the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to take immediate corrective measures to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply.
They also stressed the need for transparent, consumer-friendly billing mechanisms to restore public confidence in the power department. The party demanded that authorities address public grievances at the earliest and fix accountability for the prevailing power woes.
CPI(M) leaders expressed hope that timely intervention by the authorities, including revision and rationalisation of electricity bills, would bring much-needed relief to the people of Kashmir and help dispel the fear and uncertainty surrounding electricity charges.
