Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Members of Parliament (MPs) protesting a three-language formula in the Indian Parliament was the subject of heated debates in the house. The DMK MPs went dressed in black and shouted out slogans in Parliament, demanding the government be more flexible in its approach to the three-language policy. This has been one of the major talking points in Tamil Nadu, as the leaders of the political parties across the state feel that it is a scheme to force Hindi as a compulsory subject in schools against the will of the majority. The DMK and other Tamil political parties believe that the three-language policy is an insult to the state's culture and language.
The protest also became more vocal due to the allegations by Minister Pradhan who blamed the Tamil Nadu government for being "dishonest" and the people of the state as "uncivilized." The DMK MPs fired back at the Education Minister, with Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, one of the senior leaders, stating that the central government was not disbursing funds to Tamil Nadu unless the state enforces the three-language formula.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also came forward in criticizing Pradhan, as he felt his words were offending the people of his state. The issue of NEP and the three-language policy has been involved in the controversy between the central govt and Tamil Nadu, with the question of cultural imposition and the future of education in the state being the main issues of the discussion.
The protest is a good example of the continuous disagreement and conflict between Tamil Nadu and the central government , with many people of the state being eagerly against the NEP's language plan.
