Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis sharply criticised the Youth Congress for allegedly “defaming” the nation during the recently held Global AI Summit. Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis accused the party of politicising India’s technological achievements and undermining the country’s global image.
He expressed strong disapproval of social media posts and statements by Youth Congress leaders that, according to him, misrepresented India’s progress in artificial intelligence and innovation. “India is taking giant strides in AI, and attempts to tarnish this image are not only irresponsible but harmful to our nation’s credibility,” Fadnavis said.
The remarks come in the backdrop of heated debates on the summit stage, where several political voices questioned the authenticity of certain AI projects and collaborations. Fadnavis emphasised that such “baseless allegations” could mislead the public and affect investor confidence.
Youth Congress, meanwhile, defended its position, arguing that raising questions on accountability and transparency in tech initiatives is part of democratic discourse. However, Fadnavis maintained that criticism should not cross into the territory of “defaming national efforts in innovation.”
Political analysts suggest that the exchange reflects growing tensions between state leadership and opposition youth wings, especially in the context of India’s increasing focus on emerging technologies. The incident has sparked debate on social media, with citizens divided over whether the criticism was valid or politically motivated.
Fadnavis concluded by urging all political parties to celebrate India’s achievements in AI and technology rather than indulging in partisan attacks that could undermine the country’s reputation on the global stage.
