A case of alleged electoral fraud has been registered in Bengaluru following a complaint claiming widespread inclusion of fake voters in the Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency during the period leading up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Police confirmed the registration of the case on Friday.
According to the First Information Report, the complainant, Y Vinoda, aged 39 and a resident of Nallurhalli in Bengaluru, alleged that unidentified officials and private individuals had unlawfully inserted fake names into the electoral rolls of the constituency. Vinoda stated that the alleged manipulation of the voter list took place under the Bengaluru Central Parliamentary Constituency. She claimed that a substantial number of non existent voters were added during the 2024 general election process and alleged that this appeared to have “subverted the public mandate”. Her complaint argued that the scale of the irregularities raised serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral rolls and the possible impact on the final outcome of the polls.
Police officials said the case has been registered under provisions related to cheating and falsification of documents. Investigators are now examining the details provided in the complaint and are expected to seek records from the electoral authorities to verify the allegations. Officers added that those found responsible for manipulating the rolls could face legal action. The filing of the case has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls in rapidly growing urban constituencies such as Mahadevapura. Police officials said the investigation would focus on identifying how the alleged entries were added and whether any officials or private actors were involved in the process.
The Election Commission has not commented on the allegations so far. Police said they would proceed in accordance with the evidence gathered and urged residents to report any irregularities in voter registration to the authorities.
