Ganderbal Kangan Await Development

As the National Conference government completes its first year under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, residents of Ganderbal and Kangan express mixed reactions, appreciating political stability but noting limited progress on development promises.

In Ganderbal, flagship projects such as the 93 MW Power House remain stalled, and critical infrastructure improvements, including road widening between Nagbal and Wayil, have yet to begin. Locals continue to await commitments like free electricity for households and the regularization of daily wage SPOs. Despite these delays, the constituency remains closely tied to the Abdullah family, sustaining hope for tangible results in the near future.

Kangan, a stronghold with deep roots in the Mian family, faces similar challenges. Residents emphasize the need for upgraded healthcare facilities, including the Hariganiwan Hospital and Gund Hospital, alongside the full operationalization of the Maternity Hospital. Employment and youth engagement also remain pressing issues, with educated young people awaiting government job opportunities promised during the elections.

Both constituencies highlight untapped tourism potential, urging the government to support infrastructure development and economic revival in the sector. Locals stress that tourism has suffered recently, impacting livelihoods, and call for measures to restore the industry and compensate those affected.

While concerns persist, faith in Omar Abdullah’s leadership endures. Voters in these regions, historically loyal to the National Conference, remain hopeful that the government will accelerate development, improve infrastructure, and deliver on its promises, translating political goodwill into visible progress on the ground.
