A heavy spell of rain and snow this week is expected in Himachal Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting an imminent western disturbance. The weather condition will cause heavy rain, especially at high-altitude areas, that will create a disruption in routine life and transport.
According to IMD forecasts, places such as Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, Chamba, and Shimla's upper reaches would experience heavy snowfall. At the same time, lower areas such as Mandi, Solan, Bilaspur, and Kangra may see moderate to heavy rains. The state would also receive a significant dip in temperatures, which would only toughen the conditions for citizens and tourists alike.
The government has issued advisories cautioning the locals and visitors against making any unnecessary trips to high-altitude regions, since the weather might lead to blockage of roads, landslides, and avalanches. Emergency response forces have been alerted, and measures are being taken to ensure that essential services do not get hit.
Local authorities have asked citizens to remain updated about weather forecasts and take precautions, particularly in the areas prone to snow. With deteriorating weather expected over the next few days, citizens have been told to prepare adequate stocks of essentials and avoid going to far-flung or hilly areas unless absolutely unavoidable.
