Former cricketer Ramkaran was shot dead by a group of miscreants on Monday evening in Ganaur town of Sonipat, Haryana. The incident occurred near the Sub-Divisional Hospital, sending shockwaves through the busy area after gunshots rang out.
According to police sources, the murder is suspected to be linked to a long-standing political feud. Attackers arrived in a car and opened fire at Ramkaran in public. Though he was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead.
Ramkaran, a long-time cricketer and local coach, was also associated with a neighborhood club. Police believe his murder may be connected to internal political rivalry within the municipal council. His daughter-in-law is the councillor of Ward No. 12 of Ganaur Municipal Council. The former council chairman, Sunil ‘Lambu’, has been named the prime accused.
Following the shooting, panic spread through the area as shops were closed and police cordoned off the scene. Senior officers arrived immediately, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.
A murder case has been registered based on the family’s complaint, and police are searching for the suspects.
Notably, just days earlier, a 26-year-old kabaddi player, Tejpal Singh, was shot dead in broad daylight in Ludhiana, Punjab.
