The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of an exceptionally hot summer in Northwest India, predicting almost twice the normal number of heatwave days. The region will see 10 to 12 heatwave days this year, as opposed to the normal 5 to 6 days.

IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy said that these conditions would mainly impact West and Central India, with temperatures above normal expected.

The prediction is that maximum temperatures in these regions may increase substantially, with some places seeing rises of as much as 5 degrees Celsius.

In its Seasonal Heat Outlook for March-May 2025, the IMD has recorded that above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be experienced in most areas of India during this time. The department will keep the public updated with extended-range and daily forecasts.

Affected residents are warned to prepare for the strong heat and take precautions to ensure their safety during the coming summer.
