Jairam Ramesh Taunts Modi Over Trump’s Claims of Stopping India-Pak Conflict

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after US President Donald Trump once again claimed he had halted a military confrontation between India and Pakistan. Sharing a video of Trump’s latest statement made during his visit to Japan, Ramesh remarked that the American leader has repeated this boast “dozens of times” in different countries, calling it yet another example of exaggerated storytelling.

According to Ramesh, Trump has mentioned the episode multiple times across various international forums, even mid-flight, and continues to take credit for defusing tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbours. He also took a swipe at Modi, suggesting the Prime Minister might be growing uncomfortable with his “good friend” in Washington due to such claims.

Trump, addressing business leaders in Japan, asserted that trade measures and tariffs played a role in stopping the escalation between India and Pakistan, adding that both nations were “going at it” before his intervention. The US President has repeatedly claimed he personally called both sides to prevent further hostilities.

India, however, has firmly dismissed such assertions, maintaining that no third party was involved in the decision to end hostilities. Officials reiterated that all issues with Pakistan are addressed bilaterally, in keeping with India’s consistent diplomatic stance.

The recent controversy has revived debate over how global leaders narrate sensitive security matters for political gain. It comes months after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, demonstrating a measured and strategic counter to cross-border terrorism.

Ramesh’s latest jibe adds a political twist to Trump’s repeated statements, highlighting how international remarks often ripple into India’s domestic political arena.
