J&K Aims for Power Self-Reliance, Announces Free Electricity Units for Residents- Says CM

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has revealed a forward-looking plan towards power autonomy for the state with a bold vision to offer free electricity units to residents. This move is part of an attempt to minimize the state's reliance on outside sources of power while at the same time enhancing the standard of life for J&K's inhabitants.

J&K is blessed with abundant natural resources, especially hydropower, due to its geography with mountains and rivers. The state government intends to utilize this immense potential to produce electricity within the state, thereby decreasing the requirement to import electricity from surrounding states. By utilizing renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, and wind energy, J&K aims to satisfy its increasing power demand while promoting a cleaner, greener energy future.

One of the most impressive aspects of this new plan is the offering of free electricity units to consumers. This program is particularly aimed at helping economically disadvantaged families, offering relief to those who are unable to cope with exorbitant electricity bills. Through the offer of free units, the government hopes to alleviate financial burdens on low-income households and rural communities, where energy expenses tend to constitute a major part of monthly budgets.

Apart from offering free power, the government is also heavily investing in upgrading the power infrastructure of the region, such as enhancing transmission and distribution networks.
