JK CM Announces Revival of Historic Darbar Move

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced the revival of the historic ‘Darbar Move,’ resuming the biannual administrative practice after more than four years. Traditionally started in 1872 during Maharaja Gulab Singh’s rule, the Darbar Move involved shifting administrative offices to Jammu in winter and Srinagar in summer, ensuring a seamless connection between the two regions.

CM Omar Abdullah stated that the cabinet has approved the revival, and the file sent to the Lieutenant Governor has also been cleared. He expressed hope that this move will strengthen unity and solidarity among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

While the government welcomed the decision, the BJP criticized it, claiming it reflects a breach of public trust and a lack of transparency in governance.

Economically and socially, the Darbar Move is not just an administrative process but also a significant aspect of the region’s cultural cohesion and daily life. Its revival is expected to make administrative work more efficient, improve public access, and reinforce connectivity and trust between the two regions.
