The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) have stepped up efforts to strengthen community engagement and address public concerns by conducting 30 public outreach programmes across the Baramulla district, officials said.
The outreach initiatives were held at multiple locations including Brannar, Gudwani, Uranbowa, Gund Maqsood, Yall, Chekchetratram, Gulnarpark/Gulshaabad, Javind Nowshera, Mirher, Wanimam Paseen, Masjid Awaan, Wahipora, and Shaldaian Nowshera among others, enabling police officers to meet residents directly at the grassroots.
During these interactions, police personnel listened to a range of local grievances and issues raised by community members. Major concerns included shortages in drinking water, irregular electricity supply, poor drainage, lack of inner‑road connectivity and macadamisation, verification‑related problems, cybercrime threats, and drug abuse, authorities said.
As part of the outreach, officers also sensitised the public on key matters such as drug abuse prevention, cybercrime awareness, verification procedures, public safety measures, and the importance of reporting issues promptly through the emergency Dial‑112 service.
Police representatives assured residents that genuine problems brought up during the programmes would be forwarded to the relevant government departments for appropriate action, and that regular follow‑ups would be made to ensure resolution.
The outreach campaign is part of the JKP’s ongoing efforts to improve police–public relations, build trust, and enhance civic cooperation, especially in rural and semi‑urban areas of Baramulla where citizens often face service delivery challenges.
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying such direct engagement helps bridge the communication gap between the police and the community, and provides a platform to highlight everyday civic problems that might otherwise go unaddressed.
