Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police should focus on protecting the rights of citizens, maintaining law and order and instilling public trust.
Addressing a rally in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah claimed that violence has reduced but now is the time to combine a culture of peace with the protection of civil liberties.
He appreciated the efforts of the police force in fighting terrorism and restoring peace in Jammu and Kashmir. But the minister urged them to shift gears towards community policing, where every citizen would feel safe. He also said that incidents of terrorism in the region have drastically reduced, allowing law enforcement to shift their approach towards people-friendly policing.
Moreover, Shah wants police transparency and accountability. He said justice, protection of human rights and redressal of public grievances should be done in the coming days. The Home Minister promised that the policemen will always have full support from the government so that they can discharge their duties with maximum efficiency.
He added that it comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is in the process of normalization, restoring its economic activities, tourism and infrastructure development. Shah reiterated that a peaceful and secure environment is a prerequisite for sustainable development and urged the police to act as a bridge between the government and the people.
His comments reflect the government's grand vision for Jammu and Kashmir, which is ensuring the safety of its citizens.
