Security preparations across the Kashmir Valley have been intensified as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, chaired a high-level joint security review meeting in Srinagar on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the Police Control Room Kashmir to assess preparedness in view of upcoming important events and the expected rise in tourist arrivals in the region.
Senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, intelligence agencies, Army, Railways and Central Armed Police Forces participated in the meeting. During the review, the IGP evaluated the prevailing security situation and stressed the importance of strong coordination among various agencies to ensure peace and stability in the Valley.
Officials were directed to focus on effective intelligence sharing and to maintain constant communication between security forces. The IGP emphasised the need for sustained public cooperation, stating that community participation plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order during major religious and public events.
District Police Chiefs were instructed to intensify market checking drives in coordination with civil administration authorities. The move aims to prevent hoarding, black marketing and overpricing of essential commodities, particularly during peak tourist and festive seasons. Authorities were also asked to strengthen community outreach programmes to maintain harmony and ensure smooth conduct of public gatherings.
In anticipation of increased tourist footfall, security measures at major tourist destinations across Kashmir have been significantly enhanced. The IGP also reviewed security arrangements at railway stations and along railway tracks, directing officials to increase patrolling, surveillance and awareness drives to prevent accidents or security threats.
Security arrangements along the National Highway, a crucial route connecting the Valley with other parts of the country, were also reviewed. Officers were instructed to further strengthen monitoring and emergency response mechanisms along the route.
The IGP directed all security personnel to remain vigilant and proactive, stressing the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure peaceful and safe conduct of upcoming events throughout the Kashmir Valley.
