Competition in the field of artificial intelligence or AI technology is at an all-time high today. Meta (parent company of Facebook) has taken a giant leap there. They have unveiled their new AI model—Llama 4.It is entirely open-source, meaning that any developer or organization can use and further develop it.
While Meta announced four models collectively, currently two models—Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout—are available to everyone. Both the models, as per experts, can match Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash and Gemini 3.
After this, Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated Meta and made a post on social media site X:
"No more boredom in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team—go ahead!"
Responding to it, Meta's AI chief Ahmad Al-Del quipped,
"Thanks, Sundar! Honestly, we don't like boring days!"
This polite welcome reveals that the big tech giants respect each other's achievements in spite of being competitors.
The Llama 4 models not only are able to work with writing, but also understand images and language at the same time. It is compatible with 12 languages, meaning it can be used for numerous different purposes. Meta is implementing these models on its own virtual assistant Meta AI, which is being rolled out into apps like WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
Apart from this, another powerful model is upcoming, the Llama 4 Behemoth, which has not been released yet. It said to be built with more advanced technology.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said
"We are working on creating the best AI in the world, keeping it open for everybody, so that everybody has access to it very easily. We have worked towards this for many years now and now with Llama 4 we are moving in the right direction."
This race for technology isn't a battle—it's a giant leap towards creating the world of the future. Google, Meta, Tesla—now all are leaping into developing AI. Only time will tell who will dominate, but one thing is sure—there just isn't a dull day anymore in the world of AI.
