Hamdan Ballal, Palestinian co-director of the documentary film No Other Land, which won an Oscar, was allegedly attacked by Israeli settlers on March 24, 2025, in the occupied West Bank. According to eyewitnesses and colleagues, Ballal was assaulted and then arrested by Israeli soldiers following the attack.

The attack happened in Ballal's native village of Susya, where he had a distress call from co-workers. When they arrived, they saw Ballal under arrest by Israeli forces with settlers present, some of whom were hurling stones. Basel Adra, co-director of the documentary, was speaking about the chaotic scene and concerned for Ballal's safety, with him having sustained head and abdominal wounds.

The Israeli army described the incident as a "violent clash" in which Palestinians stoned Israeli citizens. A few people, three Palestinians and an Israeli, were arrested for interrogation after the scuffle.

Ballal has also been threatened by settlers in the past and has recorded their violent actions against him. His documentary No Other Land brings to light the plight of Palestinian communities under threat of forced displacement by Israeli military operations.

The documentary has received international recognition and has initiated debates regarding the conflict in the region.

The attack on Ballal brought to the limelight the heightened violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, especially with growing tensions in the wake of recent happenings.

As of today, there has been no word concerning Ballal's status after being detained.
