New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid heartfelt tribute to India’s police personnel on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, honouring their courage, sacrifice, and unflinching dedication to duty.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister saluted the bravery of the nation’s police forces, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining peace, protecting citizens, and ensuring national security.

“On Police Commemoration Day, we salute the courage of our police personnel and recall the supreme sacrifice by them in the line of duty. Their steadfast dedication keeps our nation and people safe. Their bravery and commitment in times of crisis and in moments of need are appreciable,” the Prime Minister said.

Observed every year on October 21, Police Commemoration Day marks the ultimate sacrifice made by ten brave policemen of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who lost their lives in an ambush by Chinese forces in 1959 at Hot Springs in Ladakh. The day serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced by police personnel and the selfless service they render to uphold law and order across the country.

The occasion is commemorated with parades and memorial ceremonies at police headquarters nationwide, with the main event traditionally held at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi. The ceremony honours all police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty during the past year.

Prime Minister Modi’s tribute highlights the government’s continued recognition of the police force’s vital role in ensuring internal security, managing disasters, and addressing emerging challenges such as cybercrime and terrorism.

The Prime Minister’s message resonated widely on social media, with citizens, police organisations, and political leaders joining in to express gratitude and respect for the men and women who serve on the frontlines of public safety.

As India observes the day with reverence, tributes continue to pour in across the nation, reaffirming the collective gratitude towards the police forces whose vigilance and sacrifice form the backbone of the country’s security framework.
