New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, alleging that its election manifesto was not a development agenda but a “rate list of corruption and extortion”. Addressing a large public rally in Chhapra, the Prime Minister accused the alliance of misleading the people with hollow promises while continuing what he termed a legacy of “loot and ransom”.
“The leaders of ‘Jungle Raj’ are constantly misleading you, luring you. RJD’s declaration and Congress’s manifesto are not manifestos; they have revealed their rate list,” PM Modi said. “The real motive behind every declaration they make is extortion, ransom, loot, corruption, all this is their true agenda,” he added.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came amid a heated campaign in Bihar, where the Mahagathbandhan comprising the RJD, Congress and Left parties, recently unveiled its election manifesto promising social welfare schemes and job creation. PM Modi, however, dismissed the document as deceptive, asserting that the opposition had no genuine concern for the people of Bihar.
He also criticised the Congress for what he described as its “disrespectful attitude” towards the people of Bihar, recalling a 2022 incident involving former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. At that time, Channi had urged people not to allow “bhaiyas” from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to enter Punjab, a remark made in the presence of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“Friends, I want to remind you those with the lantern (RJD), the hand (Congress), and their INDIA alliance partners, how they have insulted Bihar,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the alliance symbols.
PM Modi urged voters to support the NDA, emphasising that the government’s policies were focused on development, employment and dignity for every citizen of Bihar. The rally marked one of several campaign events scheduled ahead of the upcoming state elections.
