Senior railway officials carried out an intensive inspection of railway bridges and infrastructure on the Jammu–Pathankot section of the Jammu division to assess passenger safety, facilities, and the progress of restoration work following recent flood damage.
The inspection was led by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar, along with other senior officers of the division. According to a spokesperson of the Jammu railway division, the visit focused on reviewing safety measures, passenger amenities, and ongoing development and repair works across stations and rail sections on the route.
Two crucial railway bridges that suffered extensive damage during heavy rains and floods in August and September this year were a key focus of the inspection. These included railway bridge number 17, located between Kathua and Madhopur, and railway bridge number 137, situated between Ghagwal and Hiranagar. Officials conducted a thorough on-site examination of both structures to evaluate the extent of repairs completed and the remaining work required.
As part of the visit, the DRM also carried out a surprise inspection of the railway section between Jammu and Pathankot Cantonment to get a firsthand assessment of ground-level conditions. The spokesperson said the inspection aimed to ensure that safety standards are being strictly followed while restoration work progresses.
The primary objective of the inspection was to review the pace and quality of repair and restoration work on the damaged bridges, with a view to enabling the early resumption of full train operations on the busy Jammu–Pathankot track. This section is considered vital for passenger and freight movement in the region.
Emphasising passenger safety as the top priority, the railway administration had already initiated repair work soon after the damage was reported. Officials said the restoration work is progressing smoothly and remains under close monitoring to ensure timely completion without compromising safety standards.
