Hyderabad: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has announced a fund of Rs 10 lakh for villages in his Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, contingent upon their election of a BJP-backed candidate in the upcoming Gram Panchayat polls in Telangana next month.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Kumar promised immediate development funds for villages that elect a BJP-supported candidate unanimously. "Elect a BJP-backed candidate unanimously and get Rs 10 lakh instantly for development," he said, adding, "No delays, no excuses."

Kumar criticised the previous governments of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Congress, alleging that they had deceived voters by promising similar funds to Panchayats but failing to deliver on those promises. He urged voters to avoid falling for such "tricks" in the upcoming polls, emphasising that the BJP would ensure prompt funding for development.

The offer has sparked controversy, with critics questioning the timing and intentions behind such a move. However, Kumar's statement highlights the BJP's aggressive push to strengthen its influence at the grassroots level in Telangana, ahead of crucial local elections.
