The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Friday termed the discharge of Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case a “slap” on alleged political vendetta, intensifying the opposition’s attack on the ruling establishment.
In a statement, party leaders said the court’s decision exposes what they described as the misuse of investigative agencies to target opposition voices. They argued that the case against Kejriwal lacked solid evidence from the outset and was driven by political motives rather than legal merit.
Kejriwal was granted relief in a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation over alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped 2021–22 Delhi liquor policy. The court reportedly observed that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused.
Leaders of Sena (UBT) said the ruling reaffirms the independence of the judiciary and strengthens public confidence in the legal process. They claimed that opposition parties have repeatedly faced pressure through central agencies but maintained that truth ultimately prevails in courts.
The remarks add to the growing chorus of reactions from opposition parties across the country, many of whom have framed the discharge as a vindication of their claims of political targeting. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has rejected allegations of vendetta, stating that investigative agencies operate independently and act based on available evidence.
The excise policy controversy has remained one of the most politically charged issues in recent years, sparking multiple probes and heated exchanges between rival parties. While the discharge offers immediate relief to Kejriwal in this case, related investigations are understood to be ongoing.
As political reactions continue to unfold, the development is likely to sharpen debates over the role of investigative agencies and the intersection of law and politics in the country’s current climate.
