Playback artist Sonu Nigam recently delighted his audience at DTU's Engifest '25. Nevertheless, reports suggested that he was forced to cut short his concert mid-way as stones were hurled at him by some individuals in the crowd. Sonu has now refuted these reports and revealed the true reason behind his show-stopping decision.

Sonu Nigam clears the air about the concert episode

On March 25, Sonu shared on Instagram a photo of himself wearing a bunny headband performing on the fest. He said, "Contrary to what some media outlets wrote, no stones or bottles were hurled at DTU. Someone did throw a vape onstage that landed on Subhankar's chest, and that's when I heard about it."

He continued, "I stopped the play and reminded the students that if that were to ever happen again, we would be forced to close the show. The only thing hurled on stage after that was the Pookie band, which was indeed Pookie…"

Fans reacted to his explanation, with one stating, "Thanks for explaining that in the caption! It's terrible to see people throwing objects on stage. I hope Subhankar Ji is fine…" Another said, "Thanks for explaining that, Mr. Pookie Nigam." Yet another fan posted, "I appreciate this… I was scared."

News reported that part of the massive crowd—more than 100,000 students—began pelting stones and bottles at the stage, endangering his team. The news also reported that Sonu halted the concert and appealed to the crowd, "I'm here for you guys so we can all enjoy ourselves. I'm not saying don't enjoy, but don't do this, please."

Looking back at his concert at DTU, Sonu Nigam posted some pictures of him wearing a black-and-white stripy attire and captioned, "I got a new vocabulary word at DTU – Pookie! "For the unaware, when there was a hairband of bunny thrown by the audience towards Sonu on the stage during live concert, Sonu put on the hairband and sang for the rest of the concert.". The artist captured hearts with this act, and subsequently, the audience was cheering for him and addressing him as Pookie.
