Rewari: Disaster hit the Yadav family of Rewri, Haryana, as their dear son, Indian Air Force pilot Siddharth Yadav, died in a crash of a Jaguar fighter plane in Jamnagar in the wee hours of yesterday.
The family is struggling with the grief of losing their courageous son who gave up his life to save others.
Siddharth's father Sushil Yadav got the shocking news from the commanding air officer at about 11 pm. The officer had told him that one of the pilots was rescued while another pilot, their son, was killed in the crash.
"The commanding air officer contacted last evening at about 11 am and told us about the accident that an aircraft has crashed, one pilot was saved and another pilot, our son, was dead," he said.
Sushil Yadav cherished the memory of his son as an excellent student who had never failed to bring joy to the family. Siddharth was a part of the National Defence Academy (NDA) course 135 back in January 2016 and was soon to be married just a week ago, on March 23.
His father boasted about his son's achievements, saying, "He joined NDA course 135 in January 2016. He was an excellent student. We had always been proud of him."
The Yadav family has a long military tradition, with Sushil Yadav himself having served in the Air Force, and his father and grandfather both serving in the army.
Siddharth's self-sacrifice has brought pride to the family, but also profound sorrow since he was the only son.
