Today will be etched in history," says CM Stalin ahead of delimitation meeting

Just before a crucial delimitation meet, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said that "today will be etched in history." March 22, 2025, is set to be the date of this meeting in Chennai, which promises to resolve differences over the BJP central government-pushed delimitation exercise. The exercise, as seen by most regional leadership, is held to be lopsided.

Stalin labelled the formation of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) a "defining moment" of the struggle of collective action against unequal representation.

He added that this movement has become a countrywide campaign where different states unite to counteract what they have interpreted as a move to belittle their representation and rights within Parliament.

The CM received political leaders from several states, including Kerala, Telangana, and Punjab, emphasizing the value of state unity in the event of possible rearrangement of parliamentary constituencies.

In his address, Stalin indicated that if the delimitation would be carried out based on the current population figures, then it would have a very big impact on Tamil Nadu and all other states which had been able to curb population growth. He cautioned that this would undermine federalism and democracy in India.

The result of this meeting will determine future measures and responses among involved states as they try to achieve fair representation in decision-making.
