A ghastly crime was committed in Maharashtra's Thane in which a 10-year-old girl was kidnapped by a 20-year-old man, Asif Mansoori, by means of toys and subsequently allegedly abducted, raped, and murdered. The deed was committed inside a multi-storeyed building at Samrat Nagar in Mumbra. Mansoori gagged the mouth of the girl after committing the ghastly act, stabbed her on the neck using a kitchen knife, and pushed her dead body into a vertical duct on the sixth floor.
The matter came to light at 11:48 PM on Monday night when the locals heard a thud and discovered the body of the girl inside the duct. The authorities initially believed that it was an accidental fall but, in course of investigation, discovered evidence of struggle and a deep cut on the child's neck. The autopsy confirmed that she had been raped and her throat slit with a sharp object.
Mansoori was taken into custody and charged with murder, kidnapping, and rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case has provoked public outcry, with calls for tighter security and strong implementation of the law to protect children against such crimes.
