The Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police have thwarted another bid to smuggle illicit drugs across the border district of Taran Taran in Punjab. The BSF and Punjab Police jointly recovered a drone carrying 548 grams of heroin on Wednesday.
Attempt to smuggle drugs using drones thwarted
On the basis of certain inputs gained from intelligence inputs, a special search operation was carried out in the border locality of Taran Taran district by BSF and Punjab Police. While on this operation at about 2:36 pm, a model 'DJI Mavic-3 Classic' drone and a suspected packet of heroin were seized in Dode village.
The seized heroin packet was wrapped in yellow sticky tape and contained a steel ring tied to it. The drug smuggling gang is thought to have attempted to smuggle it across the border to India via drones. The scheme, however, was thwarted by the concerted efforts of the BSF and the police.
Heroin was seized earlier as well
A day prior, on Tuesday, the Punjab Police and the BSF confiscated another heroin dump from Dhariwal village of Amritsar district.
During the early morning hours of April 1, following a tip-off, a search operation was carried out in Dhariwal village by the BSF and the police. At approximately 8:30 am, a packet of suspected heroin weighing 492 grams was seized from a cattle farm.
The packet was covered in clear tape and consisted of three lit strips and a steel ring that was stuck to it. With it, some drugs were also recovered, which are said to have been used for smuggling.
BSF making efforts to prevent drug smuggling via drones
The trend of drug smuggling by drones at the border is on the rise. Smugglers are attempting to push the prohibited drugs into Indian territory by utilizing advanced technology. But this conspiracy is again and again being foiled by the actions of the BSF and Punjab Police.
Following this incident, the BSF stated that they have strengthened vigilance at the border and will implement stringent measures to deter smuggling.
