TVK Seeks Place in Election Consultations

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay has asked the Election Commission to include his party in all consultative meetings held for upcoming elections, saying such participation would strengthen the democratic process.

In a representation submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner on 15 November, Vijay said his party now has a “visible and demonstrable presence” across Tamil Nadu and will contest elections throughout the State. He requested that the Commission ensure equal opportunities for all political parties, regardless of their recognition status. Vijay said, “We are firmly committed to advancing the democratic process in a manner that ensures every citizen’s voice is heard. In this context, we respectfully submit that ensuring a level playing field for all political parties, recognised or otherwise, forms an integral part of the basic structure of the Constitution.”

Party officials said the request aims to ensure that TVK is included in discussions concerning the electoral process, guidelines, and implementation plans. The party believes that such inclusion would help improve transparency and allow newer political formations to contribute to electoral reforms. TVK, launched by the actor politician earlier this year, has been expanding its organisational structure across districts. The party has said it intends to contest the next assembly polls and is focusing on building a strong presence at the booth and block levels.

Officials in Chennai said the representation has been received by the Commission, and further decision will be taken according to established procedures. The Election Commission is expected to review the request as part of its broader consultation framework for political parties ahead of the next election cycle.
