Congress leader Udit Raj has demanded reservation in the judiciary as a means of avoiding corruption and bias in the judicial process.
In his words on March 25, 2025, implementing reservation would introduce more poor sections into representation and thus introduce more fairness and accountability in court procedures.
Raj's step follows continued discussions about whether or not the judiciary has to be overhauled in order to keep under rein such institutional pitfalls as inefficiency and presumed prejudice that cause a degeneration in the dispensation of justice.
Raj opined that the more representative the judiciary is, the greater is likely to be good decision-making coupled with eradication of corruption leading to popular trust in the apparatus of law.
The call for reservation in the courts is a part of broader efforts by political champions of all colors to ensure social justice and inclusive representation in the running of the country as a whole.
Raj's stand focuses attention on the desirability to correct centuries of injustice done to under-represented minorities so that the voice of this community is heard in crucial organs like the judiciary.
Even if this proposal is still under debate, it obviously raises questions about meritocracy as opposed to representation in the legal profession and judicial independence and ability being impacted by it.
