US Intel Warns of Xi’s Possible Military Move; Trump Reacts to Rising China Tensions

The recent U.S. intelligence report has graded China as the most urgent cyber and military threat to U.S. national security. These are coming against the backdrop of ratcheting of relations between China and America, with China particularly targeting Taiwan. China has been conducting giant military exercises near Taiwan, viewed by Beijing as being within its sphere, sending shivers that it would be invaded by force at some point in the future.

American security agencies alert that China is pursuing with urgency the replacement of the United States as world superpower by using a range of short of full-scale war coercive means in an effort to assert its supremacy. Things are further complicated by China's military modernization and enhanced collaboration with other countries such as Russia, Iran, and North Korea to counter U.S. influence.

In reaction to these events, former U.S. President Donald Trump has been strong in promoting the need for remaining strong against China.

Trump has promoted American military dominance to continue and has disparaged existing U.S. policy for failing to do enough to counter the threat of China.

China's second-ranking military chief, General He Weidong, recent absence from public appearances has further raised speculation regarding internal politics among China's military leadership. This follows after Xi Jinping cracked down on the Central Military Commission's dominance, a move largely regarded as an attempt to reinforce loyalty and control of the military.

With tensions rising, the U.S. and its allies are watching China's military activities closely, especially in the Taiwan Strait.

The U.S. has reaffirmed its commitment to assist Taiwan, while China continues to claim supremacy over the island by conducting military exercises and diplomatic coercion. The situation remains precarious, with both sides remaining in a fragile power and influence standoff in the region.
