Singer and composer Vishal Dadlani has taken a strong stand against the culture of “sifaarish” in India’s music industry, urging aspiring artists to rely on talent rather than political or personal connections. On February 9, 2026, Dadlani shared an uncompromising note on Instagram, revealing that he recently blocked a politician and an aspiring singer who attempted to use influence to secure opportunities with him.
In his post, Dadlani wrote, “Some advice for newbie singers. Don’t get some mantri-ji or his secretary to call me. That is a guaranteed way to NEVER meet me. I have zero respect for people who try to make their way forward through ‘contacts’. Even if you’re a great singer, I have no interest in working with you.”
He encouraged young musicians to trust their abilities, work hard, and be patient, emphasizing that reliance on “sifaarish” is not only ineffective but also a reflection of self-doubt in one’s own talent. “Please have faith in your talent. Don’t do the ‘sifaarish’ thing. It’s a boring cliché and shows you don’t believe your skills are enough,” he added.
Dadlani’s post quickly drew attention online, sparking conversations about the prevalence of nepotism in creative industries. Known for speaking his mind, the Indian Idol judge has often used social media to voice opinions on industry and social issues.
Aside from his outspoken views, Dadlani remains active in music projects. He recently collaborated with rapper Hanumankind for the campaign anthem Taste the Thunder and released solo Telugu singles like Mega Victory Mass Song and Dekhlenge Saala. As a judge on Indian Idol Season 16, he continues to mentor emerging talent, demonstrating that hard work and skill remain the true pathways to success in the music world.
