The Election Commission is set to publish the final electoral roll for West Bengal today following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, a crucial exercise ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
Officials from the Election Commission of India confirmed that the revised voter list will be made available both online and at designated electoral registration offices across districts. The publication marks the culmination of months of verification, corrections, and claims and objections filed by voters.
The Special Intensive Revision was conducted to ensure that the voter database remains accurate and up to date. During the process, booth-level officers carried out field verification to identify duplicate entries, remove names of deceased voters, and include newly eligible citizens who have recently turned 18. Political parties were also allowed to submit objections and seek corrections.
In several districts, including Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, and Murshidabad, the revision drive saw a high number of applications for inclusion and correction. Election officials reported that special camps were organised at polling booths to assist residents in checking their details and submitting necessary documents.
The SIR exercise comes at a politically sensitive time in West Bengal, where parties are gearing up for a high-stakes electoral battle. Leaders across party lines have been closely monitoring the revision process, often raising concerns about alleged wrongful deletions or inclusions. However, officials have reiterated that the entire process was conducted in accordance with established guidelines to maintain transparency and fairness.
Once published, voters will be able to verify their names through the official portal of the Election Commission or by visiting local election offices. Authorities have urged citizens to check their details promptly and report any discrepancies within the stipulated timeframe.
The final electoral roll serves as the foundation for conducting free and fair elections. With today’s publication, the administrative machinery moves one step closer to poll readiness, ensuring that every eligible voter in West Bengal has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.
