Bengaluru (India), Mar 21 : Karnataka Assembly was put in a tizzy on Friday as Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna accused him of being targeted by a honey trap racket.
BJP legislators burst out into slogans of "down, down" while holding CDs, which they asserted were evidence of the so-called plot against 48 ministers
BJP members rushed into the middle of the assembly during the time when Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was speaking.
R Ashoka, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition, said, "This is not a party matter; it's a large-scale conspiracy against legislators who are committed to serve the people. Some people are involved in these honeytrap activities with a clandestine agenda."
Responding, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah came to the defense of his government, claiming that no one involved in the honey trap scandal was being protected. While BJP leaders demanded a judicial inquiry, Siddaramaiah noted that G Parameshwara had already dealt with Rajanna's allegations and had ordered an inquiry.
"The government has a responsibility to provide justice. As per the law, the guilty must be punished. The Home Minister said that if Rajanna lodges a complaint, there will be a proper investigation. But since Rajanna did not mention any names, action can be taken only if he does," the CM clarified.
Karnataka Minister MC Sudhakar said, "This is a serious issue. Whether from the ruling party or opposition, many people are taking advantage and trying to extort money from decent individuals, trapping them into these situations.
Our Home Minister has said that if the cooperation minister files a formal complaint on this issue, we will look into it."
Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that plans were afoot to initiate a high-level inquiry into the purported honey trap affair involving Rajanna's son, Rajendra Rajanna, who is an MLC.
