Kerala,March 26

Bouncers have been controlling groups of people at huge events, guarding celebrities, and resolving problems at pubs and parties for decades. The job has largely been reserved for men, but more and more women, who are hard both physically and mentally, are embracing this unique role. Anu Kunjumon is among them.

In a black T-shirt and denims, Anu navigated through a crowd, giving way to superstar Mohanlal. Her confident stride and authoritative presence were visible as she coordinated security at a recent Kochi function. Quite far from the popularly perceived male bouncers, Anu Kunjumon is shattering stereotypes and part of the growing list of women who are finding name as professional bouncers in Kerala.

A responsible story

At 37 years of age, Anu Kunjumon is a pioneer. She was motivated to become a bouncer by her own experiences. In her childhood, she used to go through a lot of struggles, supporting her mother and sister while trying to maintain some respect for herself. Her psychological resistance and physical strength were something she needed to stay alive. She told PTI that she has always wanted to earn respect and stand her ground.

Anu first worked as a photographer, covering film promos and celebrity parties. During one such job, she got into a fight with a male bouncer, and this made her think of entering the profession herself. She wondered why women were not being recruited for security personnel and announced that she wanted to be a bouncer, a move that changed her life.

As per the Recent Report it shows that more women are now needed as bouncers at award shows, celebrity parties, and nightclubs. They claimed they earn the same salaries as men who are bouncers. But she cited a concern of gravity: many of the women who engage in this job do not receive training.
