A 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Jalalpur village of Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district after becoming distressed over her score in the NEET re-examination. Police identified the student as Ankita Suresh Sangle and said she had secured 166 marks, below the qualifying cut-off.
According to police, Ankita took the extreme step at her home on Saturday. A note recovered from the scene reportedly expressed disappointment over her performance, with the student describing herself as "an average student" who felt she had failed to fulfil her parents' expectations. Her father said she had prepared sincerely but had been under immense stress following the examination controversy and re-test.
The Karjat Police have registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation into the incident. Officials said the family has been questioned as part of the probe, and further inquiries are underway.
The incident comes amid continuing nationwide debate over the NEET examination and recent protests over alleged irregularities. It has renewed concerns about the intense academic pressure faced by students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations.
