Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur has added a procedure of sharing documents of aspiring students with the police for "verification and an in-depth scrutiny of their antecedents" before admitting them to the well-known Islamic institution .

The decision has been taken to ensure that the institution does not get maligned if its students are found involved in any anti-national activities.

Abdul Khaliq Madrasi, Vice-Chancellor of the seminary, said, "The seminary will also make other aspects of its admission process more stringent because the seminary has often come under criticism for "harboring suspicious elements".
He further said that people raise their fingers against Darul Uloom for objectionable activities committed by the students.

"People blame the seminary for the misdeeds of the students, even though the institution's work is restricted to academic activities. To preserve the reputation of the institution, we have decided to get police verification of all new entrants done," Madrasi added.
