The Maharashtra TET 2026 paper leak row intensified after NSUI workers showed black flags to state Education Minister Dada Bhuse outside the legislature complex in Mumbai, demanding his resignation.
Led by Maharashtra NSUI president Sagar Salunkhe, protesters gathered near Vidhan Bhavan and allegedly tried to stop the minister’s vehicle as he was leaving the complex. They raised slogans against the state government, accusing it of failing to stop repeated paper leaks in recruitment and competitive examinations. Police later detained Salunkhe and several NSUI workers.
The protest came after the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test was postponed on Saturday, June 27, just a day before it was scheduled to be held. Police in Thane district found that part of the question paper had allegedly been leaked and arrested three people in connection with the case.
Opposition parties also raised the issue in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, demanding Bhuse’s resignation and a CBI probe. Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP) leaders accused the government of failing to protect the future of lakhs of aspirants. The House was briefly adjourned amid uproar.
Bhuse said the government had already formed a Special Investigation Team and promised strict action against those responsible. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the SIT to be headed by Thane Joint Commissioner of Police Panjabrao Ugale.
For lakhs of candidates, the postponement has caused uncertainty and anger. Many had travelled, prepared and waited for the exam, only to see it cancelled at the last moment. The incident has again raised serious questions about exam security, accountability and transparency in Maharashtra’s recruitment system.
The opposition says only a high-level independent probe can restore trust. The government, meanwhile, insists that the guilty will not be spared.
