A top official said on Saturday that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has filed a charge-sheet against comedian Bharti Singh, her spouse Haarsh Limbachiya, and a drug dealer in connection with a 2020 drug case.

The NCB just filed the charge-sheet, which totals over 1,200 pages, before a court in this city, he claimed.

The anti-drug agency detained the couple in November 2020 after finding ganja (cannabis) in their suburban Andheri home, the officer added.

The NCB conducted a search of the couple's Lokhandwala house in Mumbai's Andheri neighbourhood on November 21, 2020. Limbachiyaa is a scriptwriter and producer. According to reports, the NCB searched their house and found 86.5gm of marijuana.

The chargesheet submitted by the agency NCB is based on a number of NDPS Act sections, including sections 27 related to consumption, 28 punishment for attempts to commit crimes, and 29 punishment for aiding and abetting criminal activity, as well as section 8 C related to product manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import into India, export from India, or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance, with the exception of marijuana.

The couple filed for bail, claiming that even if they were found guilty following a protracted trial, the sentence would not exceed a year because of the modest amount of drugs that had been seized at their home. The couple paid a security deposit of Rs. 15,000 apiece, and on November 23 the Magistrate court granted them release.
