Clashes Erupt as Prashant Kishor Detained

On Wednesday chaos erupted in Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan, as the political expert Prashant Kishor was taken into custody by the police. The arrest ensued violent confrontation on the grounds between supporters of Kishor and the police.
Detaining an individual sharp in tongue against the Bihar government, civil authority under pretenses of not granting permissions detained him for holding an anti-realism rally addressing various state issues.
However, thousands of Bihar supporters, mostly from outside towns, established that the police were pursuing a vindictive agenda politically. "This is clearly an attack on our democratic rights," according to one irritated youthful protester pertaining to the charges. It was able to build up to a lathi-charge after several injured as demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades.
"Interventions on the part of police are called law enforcement," the defender put in. "Are we meant to allow assemblies not intended to be public-spirited? The officer said".
This incident, observers note, is emblematic of a greater pattern through which dissent is increasingly repressed at the state level. Supporters of Kishor are standing behind their slogan and will take it further, all of which lead to questions about the government's tolerance to criticism.
