A cloudburst in Jadon village of Kandaghat subdivision in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh claimed the lives of seven people on Monday morning. The cloudburst's heavy rains and hailstorms caused widespread flooding, which washed away two houses and a cowshed. Five people were rescued, while the search for three missing people is still underway.
The cloudburst occurred around 1:30 am, following which
heavy rains and hailstorm lashed the area. The water level in the nearby Jadon
rivulet rose rapidly, inundating the village and washing away the two houses.
The people who were killed were sleeping in the houses when they were swept
away by the water.
The rescue operation was carried out by the police, local
administration, and volunteers. Five people were rescued and taken to a nearby
hospital. The search for the three missing people is still underway.
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed the
authorities to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.
This is the second cloudburst in Solan district in the
past two weeks. On July 27, a cloudburst in Kandaghat subdivision had claimed
the lives of two people and damaged several houses.
Cloudbursts are a common occurrence in Himachal Pradesh during the monsoon season. They are caused by the sudden release of a large amount of water from the clouds, which can cause widespread damage and loss of life. The state government has been advised to take necessary precautions to
avoid such incidents in the future.
