Congress Leaders in J&K Push for Vikar Wani's Exit

In a significant development, Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are seeking the removal of former state party chief Vikar Rasool Wani. The demand has brought to light internal discord within the party as several senior leaders have reportedly approached the central leadership, urging a change in the state unit's top position. They allege that Wani’s leadership has failed to strengthen the party's grassroots connections, leading to a weakened presence in the state.

The call for Wani's ouster follows a series of closed-door meetings where Congress leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the party's current state in J&K. According to sources, these leaders believe that Wani has been unable to maintain cohesion among party members, which has hurt their chances ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. One of the senior leaders, on the condition of anonymity, said, "We need a leader who can unite all factions and reinvigorate the party’s spirit. Wani has not been effective in that role."

This internal strife comes at a time when the Congress is gearing up to take on the ruling BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. The demand for Wani’s removal reflects deeper issues within the party, suggesting that the state unit is grappling with leadership crises. Observers believe that if the party high command does not address these concerns swiftly, it might risk losing its already fragile foothold in the region. The Congress leadership in Delhi is yet to make an official statement on the matter, but the growing discontent cannot be ignored.
